Laser therapy for equine sarcoids and tumours
Equine sarcoids are the most common skin tumours in horses. Although they are usually benign, they can proliferate, irritate the skin and significantly impair the horse's well-being. An effective, tissue-sparing and modern method of treatment is the Use of a diode laser.
Advantages of laser surgery
Sarcoids and other skin tumours can be precisely removed with our state-of-the-art diode laser. The method offers several advantages over conventional surgical procedures:
- Gentle on tissue: The laser works very precisely and enables the tumour to be removed with pinpoint accuracy without unnecessarily damaging surrounding healthy tissue.
- Minor bleeding: By simultaneously obliterating small blood vessels, the treatment is usually virtually haematoma-free.
- Less pain and swelling: The thermal effect of the laser reduces inflammatory reactions and supports faster healing.
- Sterilising effect: The laser energy kills germs in the treatment area and thus reduces the risk of infection.
Treatment and aftercare
The removal of sarcoids or other skin tumours with the diode laser is usually performed under sedation and local anaesthetic. Depending on the size and location of the tumour, a single procedure may be sufficient, but in some cases several sessions may be necessary.
Regular monitoring is important after treatment, as sarcoids can tend to recur despite careful removal. However, gentle laser therapy can reduce the risk of tumour recurrence.
