Purchase investigation

The purchase examination is a snapshot of the health status at the time of purchase. The clinical examination is the main focus here, in which a comprehensive orthopaedic and internal examination is carried out, as well as an examination of the eyes and teeth.

Background information such as sporting performance, previous illnesses, training status and age of the horse are taken into account and lead to a comprehensive overall picture.

In the radiological examination of the extremities, 18 X-ray images are taken as standard, and in future 22, in order to rule out the presence of risk findings in known critical localisations prior to purchase.

Minor findings are assessed in conjunction with the clinical examination results. Here, the clinical relevance is often questionable and must be discussed individually with the buyer with regard to the purchase decision.

Additional X-ray examinations are often requested in the cervical spine and back area, as findings may be present here that have an influence on the horse's rideability and willingness to perform athletically.

Depending on the medical issue, further imaging aids such as ultrasound, endoscopy etc. are available. Medication tests are carried out at the request of the client to ensure that the examination is carried out independently of any medication affecting performance.

Special laboratory tests are required for the international export of horses, whereby the country-specific import conditions must be observed.

The costs of the purchase inspection shall be borne by the client; this should be agreed between the buyer and seller in advance of the inspection.

The cost of the purchase inspection depends on the value of the horse. Risk surcharges must be taken into account for higher-priced horses. Please refer to the contract documents for more details.
