Colic is one of the most common and most serious emergencies in equine medicine. It does not describe a single disease, but is a collective term for different, often very painful processes in the abdomen. These range from mild discomfort to life-threatening conditions.
Pferdeklinik Bargteheide offers a 24-hour emergency service for hospitalised colic patients. Our services include a thorough clinical examination as well as further diagnostics such as laboratory analyses, ultrasound examinations of the abdominal cavity or a gastroscopy.
This is followed by treatment that is individually tailored to the horse. The horse is looked after and monitored around the clock by our competent team and the therapy can be adapted to the current condition at any time.
The aim of the treatment is to stabilise the horse's condition as quickly as possible - among other things through drug therapy, intravenous fluid administration or with the help of a nasogastric tube.
In cases of acute colic requiring surgery, please contact specialised clinics.
