The Skeletal scintigraphy is a modern imaging procedure that is particularly useful in the Equine orthopaedics has proven itself.
It enables the display of Foci of inflammation and Changes in bone metabolism - often before they become visible in the X-ray image.
A Medically authorised, radioactive contrast agent administered.
Areas with inflammation or increased metabolic activity in the bone store more of it. With a highly sensitive gamma camera these changes can then be precisely recorded.
The Pferdeklinik Bargteheide has many years of experience in this area:
Already since 1996 we use skeletal scintigraphy on a standing horse in.
Today we can up to 15 horses per week with this method.
Areas of application of scintigraphy
- Rideability problems with suspected cervical spine or back problems
- Suspected fissures, stress fractures or fractures in areas that are difficult to access (e.g. pelvis, hip, femur)
- Unclear or severe lameness
- Tendon insertion disorders (e.g. at the origin of the fetlock)
- Follow-up of already known diseases
- Clarification of circulatory disorders
- Joint diseases that cannot be recognised radiologically
- Examination of uncooperative patients as an alternative to diagnostic anaesthesia
Your advantages at a glance
- Examination of the entire skeleton or specific regions
- Visualisation of areas that are difficult to access or inconspicuous on X-ray
- Early detection of changes
- Performed on a standing, sedated horse - no general anaesthetic required
After the scintigraphy, more targeted follow-up diagnostics such as X-ray, Ultrasound, Diagnostic anaesthesia, MRT or CT scan.
